LMAO, so I won't cry

This in from the AP:

McCain and running mate Sarah Palin softened opposition to government bailouts, accepting the U.S. takeover of the nation's largest insurer as unfortunate but necessary to protect ordinary Americans.

"The shot that has been called by the Feds — it's understandable but very, very disappointing that taxpayers are called upon for another one," Palin told reporters during a visit to delicatessen in Cleveland.

Uh, did it ever occur to McPalin that the "understandable but very, very disappointing" decision the government made is a direct result of the deregulation policies supported by McCain, and his Republican cronies and predecessors? The hypocrisy is appalling. I just wish I could find it surprising.

Hmm, would these be the same deregulation policies signed into law by Bill Clinton? Left out that little fact, didya?

I know it's hard to tell the whole story because then you can't act pious. But check your facts before you post. You're just making yourself look ignorant.

Nancy--I hear your AAAARGH and feel your pain.

Anon-
You know, you're right about Clinton. Of course, the whole climate of deregulation of the banking and related industries began in the 80s. . .Any one remember Resolution Trust Company. . . .??

It's easy to be rude, isn't it, when you're posting anonymously?

Oh, and Anon--it was a Republican-controlled Congress who brought that passed the bill (Phil Gramm was one of the sponsors. . .) . . .Maybe Clinton should have vetoed the dereg bill in the first place--but the blame does not lie solely with Clinton.

Or am I just making myself look ignorant again?

And finally, I believe Phil Gramm (one of the sponsors of the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act) is an economic advisor to McCain.

All I can think of lately is George Orwell. Every time McCain starts on about "Washington" and I remember that he's the elite son of an Admiral and a long-time Washington insider no matter how "maverick" he pretends to be - and how much he gave up of his core beliefs to run, I just want to throw something (or throw up.....)
